Field Technician

Department: Applications Engineer
Location: Brooklyn Park, MN

POSITION TITLE: Field Technician

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Provides technical product installation support to Clearfield employees and customers.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors technical installation activities relating to Clearfield product installations:
  • Reviews installation documents for accuracy.
  • Able to identify and understand installation and product changes and how they relate to product installation.
  • Provides customer training on product benefits, features, and capabilities.
  • Observes and provides guidance to customer technicians.
  • Reports operational problems affecting equipment installation through proper Clearfield channels.
  • Supports new product introduction and process development initiatives.
  • Resolves Customer issues and complaints.
  • Investigates reported problems. Determines and facilitates corrective action.
  • Provides technical direction to customer field staff and provides correction action guidance. Manages quality control protocol and testing to assure problem has been satisfactorily resolved.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation relating to work activity:
  • Records field activities in CRM.
  • Directly communicates, as needed, with other engineering, product management, and quality departments on problems and solutions encountered in the field.
  • Prepares on-time field reports to keep stakeholders informed on project progress
  • Performs other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

Work Environment:

  • May climb and work at elevations (ladders, lift trucks).
  • May work in confined spaces (communication closets, utility holes).
  • May perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to, lifting objects weighting over 50 pounds.
  • May perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather).
  • Must be able to work as needed to meet customer needs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary technical education preferred.
  • Minimum of three years hands on experience. Experience working in the telecommunications industry preferred.
  • Strong customer service and support experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with an emphasis on inter-personal communications skills.
  • Proficient in the use of fiber optic test equipment (e.g. OTDR, power meters, inspection probes, etc.).
  • Ability to successfully complete product training and industry related certification training.
  • Ability to understand the use and capabilities of Clearfield products, applications, and applications within the network.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers and Clearfield employees to achieve common goals and foster a cooperative climate.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and travel up to seventy five percent (75%).

SALARY INFORMATION: $54,815 - $68,519 - $82,222; Bonus eligible
